Just imagine your days along the rivers Rhine, Main and Danube. From windmills and tulip fields in Netherlands, fairytale castles of Germany, the engineering marvels of the Main-Danube Canal to the picturesque vineyards of the Wachau Valley in Austria, presented the highlights of the European river cruises journey.
Here is a sample of European river cruises itinerary:
Day 1 – arrive in Amsterdam and transfer to the cruise for boarding, and the rest of the day is free to relax or start to explore the city.
Day 2 – sail to Kinderdijk, a fascinating tour of the windmills and ingenious flood management technologies. After lunch, you may enjoy the Dutch table shuffleboard and sample Dutch cheeses, and a juniper liqueur. Cruise through the night.
Day 3 – we will have a morning visit of Cologne Cathedral, the largest cathedral in Germany. You may spend the rest of the day and evening to explore Cologne where you can discover the interesting neighborhood, Frangrance museum and Chocolate museum. Lunch and dinner are available onboard. The cruise will depart at midnight.
Day 4 – the cruise will pass hilltop castles along the Rhine and stop in Koblenz to visit Marksburg, a Rhine castle. We will pass the Lorelei rock that marks the narrowest point of the river. Lunch and dinner are served onboard.
Day 5 – spend sailing along the beautiful Main R After lunch, we will stop in Miltenberg, half-timbered houses and the oldest inn in Germany. The cruise will sail through the night to Wurzburg.
Day 6 – Wurzburg tour to visit bishops of Wurzburg Residenz and enjoy a nice afternoon cruise. You may take an optional full-day tour along the romantic road in Germany and be back to the cruise for your dinner.
Day 7 – Sail through the morning, we will visit Bamberg after lunch. Visiting the magnificent cathedral and city hall that built on a tiny island in the middle of a river. You can try smoke-flavored beer before return to the cruise.
Day 8 – After breakfast descent into Nuremberg. Visit the ruins of Zeppelin Field, used by the Nazis in 1930 as a parade ground, and see the Palace of Justice. Spend some free time to explore the old town of Nuremberg, or an optional World War II history tour, including a tour of the museum documentation. We will leave just before dinner.
Day 9 – arrive in Regensburg. You may explore the perfectly preserved medieval town, including buildings from Roman times. Discover the many noble houses of the 13th and 14 Century and see the magnificent Cathedral of St. Peter. Hours of free time, you may visit the old sausage kitchen in the oldest restaurant in Germany.Dinner on board.
Day 10 – we will have a walking tour to see
Passau narrow streets and Italianate architecture and fortress of the upper house, the 13th century fortress that served for centuries as a bulwark of the bishop. Then, listen to a concert at the largest organ in the cathedral of St. Stephen before returning aboard for dinner.
Day 11 – after breakfast you may visit the abbey at Melk, a Benedictine monastery with the finest Italian baroque architecture. In the afternoon, rejoin the cruise sailing through the spectacular Wachau Valley. For dinner, you have free time to explore to Dürnstein. You can see Kuenringer castle, or sample some local wines from this famous wine production.
Day 12 – ride along Ringstrasse of Vienna. You also see the world-famous Opera House in Vienna, St. Stephen’s Cathedral and Hofburg Palace. Back on board for lunch. The rest of the day is to further explore the many cafes of Vienna, and museums, visit the home of your favorite classical composers. After dinner, you can optionally enjoy a classical concert.
Day 13 – Arrive early and go on a walk from the charming capital of Slovakia. You can also pass by several baroque palaces from the Habsburg dynasty before your return to the cruise in the afternoon. Late in the evening arrived in Budapest.
Day 14 – sailing along the Danube River that divides the city into “Buda” and “Pest.”Explore both parts, starting with National Opera House and historic Heroes’ Square. Stroll Fisherman’s Hill to Fishermen’s Bastion and Matthias Church in Buda. Enjoy lunch on the deck and the rest of the day to explore on your own. Go back to your ship for a traditional Hungarian farewell dinner.
Day 15 – After breakfast, descend and go to the airport for your flight home.
